T&D PowerSkills is a comprehensive 78-title video and workbook based lineman training program geared to instruct electric utility lineworkers with up-to-date, safety-related work practices and technical skills related to the installation, maintenance, and removal of transmission and distribution systems.

The individual units can be structured to support any type of company-designed lineworker apprenticeship program from apprentice to journeyman level, and can be used as a four year, 8000 hour apprenticeship program.

Currently, over 350 utilities and powerline contractors use the T&D PowerSkills material.

Competencies

The T&D PowerSkills program is based on a series of 191 industry-accepted lineworker competencies. This list is comprised of many years of industry experience and feedback from a broad set of customers ranging from educational institutions to municipal electrics to contractors to investor owned utilities. Learning Management System

The redesigned T&D PowerSkills Learning Management System (LMS) couples the industry-leading T&D PowerSkills training material with a delivery model based on adult learning principles in a way that carries lineworker training into the next decade. Training material is broken up into short, digestible sections that reinforce core principles, while consistently teaching students procedures that adhere to industry best practices. Section quizzes at the end of each major segment ensure that students are engaged and grasping the training material before moving on to the next.

Our Update Process

Part of our commitment to our customers is to always have the most up to date material available. A Board of our users and content development partners meets biannually to discuss changing in best practices in the industry, how OSHA regulations are interpreted, and which T&D PowerSkills units should be prioritized for update.

What we have witnessed over four years of implementation has been deeper understanding of the core concepts of the electrical utility industry, expanding to better application of those concepts in how our lineworkers approach and perform their jobs.
