About Us

T&D PowerSkills is a product name for a 78-unit Lineman Training Program. Each course unit is comprised of a video, a student workbook, and an instructor’s guide.

The program upon which has an interesting history of development. In the 1980s, a company known as Nuclear Utility Services, recognizing the need for lineworker training, set out to create a Lineman Training Program. NUS was very successful in marketing these units, but as they aged, the material fell out of alignment with current OSHA regulations and newer equipment and industry best practices.

Ronald Schenk created the Institute for Safety in Powerline Construction in 2004 in order to help improve safety and training practices for lineworkers. By 2007, seeing the need to replace the increasingly outdated and unusable training material, Schenk acquired the intellectual property rights to 78 of the most important NUS lineworker training units, and founded T&D PowerSkills to provide this derivative product to the industry.

In the years since, T&D PowerSkills has grown in its capabilities and ambition, building a team of subject matter experts well versed in OSHA’s changing guidelines, videographers, narrators, 2D and 3D illustration artists, and web application developers. Guiding this team is a User Development Board, which meets regularly to discuss changing OSHA regulations and industry needs, ensuring that T&D PowerSkills is routinely updated.
